Rural Aid for Healthcare using Aadhaar Technology

RAHAT

August, 2011

Problem: The soul of India lies in its villages. Indeed, for a country like India, about 70% of the population of which resides in villages, rural development is a major factor in that of the country as a whole. Research conducted by Phillips, HP etc. has shown that not only the health indicators in rural areas much worse than the urban areas, but also that these indicators vary from state to state which calls for a unified healthcare system.

Solution: The Aadhaar (unique identification) scheme undertaken by the Indian government has been the largest of its kind and has the potential of providing a base for unified applications that enable technology to penetrate areas of gorwing concern. RAHAT is one of the wonderful applications of UID that India foresees. It will create pervasive healthcare services in the rural villages using concepts of Telemedicine and UID to create a public and unified healthcare system on the cloud which will pave way for the long-dreamt vision of unified medical databases.
